The West Coast Surf North West Surf Championships took place on Saturday 6th October at Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) - Southwest gales pushed the contest venue around onto the north coast of the peninsula as Porth Neigwl was a large mass of white water! There were, however, some very contestable waves at "The Sands" and the sun shone for much of the day. A large entry was thinned down on saturday morning and with a forecast of rain on Sunday the contest was finished in one day. A very close final was surfed in ever decreasing waves but Warren Llewelyn emerged a clear winner. The next few places were seperated by a couple of points and Kieran Evans just clinched second with Giles Collyer third and Rudi Davies fourth. The bodyboard event was won by Penny Hancox with Nips Pilling second and Piers Lomax third.
A big party was, once again, held on the Saturday evening in Abersoch with proceeds going to local marine based charities.
