Week 2002 Results :
The last day of Mirror Week coincided
with a glorious Abersoch summer's day, but too little wind to
sail. Overall results as per day 4 with Suzy and Russell Peters
taking the honours.
A Swimming Relay Race was run instead and this was won by the
James Peters' Team, so aptly named "Cheetahs"!
The first 5 boats home were SCYC Boats
Russell & Suzy Peters
Ben Crompton & Robbie Cowan
Nikki & Sarah Sharp
First home in the Silver Fleet were Moira & Jack Moor from
Blithfield closely followed by Gemma & Gerard Dyson of Royal
York.
78 Entries - 20 different Clubs - farthest was Warsash.
Mirror Nationals next year at Abersoch - so don't forget to book
your accommodation early!

DAY 1 AT ABERSOCH MIRROR WEEK
Conditions proved ideal for fast, competitive Mirror Sailing in
Abersoch today. Declaring a record entry of 76 Mirrors for 5 days
of racing, organiser Mike Crompton set two races in a perfect
Force 3 South Westerly with a strong port bias to the start line.
Russell Peters and daughter Suzy sharing the helm
proved masters of the conditions and won both races. Keen racing throughout
the fleet was enjoyed by all and we hope the fine weather continues
till Friday.
Day 2:
Fleet
entry now stands at a magnificent 78. The Racing today was extremely
competitive and there were two general recalls before the fleet got
away cleanly.
A strong South Westerly of Force 5/6 provided great sailing but proved
too much for some of the holiday sailors. There were only 48 finishers.
Race 3 was won by last year's winners, Tom Crompton and Ben Cooke, who
narrowly beat Russell and Suzy Peters who retain their overall lead.
Socials gathering pace with a sell out Family Quiz Night tonight (Tuesday)
and Hog Roast & Karaoke on Wednesday with famous Beach barbecue
on Thrusday evening.
Greetings from a windswept but fabulous Abersoch.
DAY 3 & 4 AT ABERSOCH MIRROR WEEK:
Wednesday - Ideal Abersoch
sailing conditions with Force 2 to 3 south westerlies in the bay. Ben
Crompton picked up the first race and Katie & Anna MacKenzie the
second one, but Russell Peters retained the overall lead. This unruly
fleet took four attempts to start the second race!!
Thursday - light breezes meant that lightweight crews took line honours
with Ben Crompton and Robbie Cowan taking the first race, and moving
into second overall behind the long time leader, Suzy & Russell
peters.
One day to go, hog roast extremely well attended Weds night, barbecue
and games on the beach tonight Thursday and then on to the prizegiving
on Friday.
All good practice for next year's Nationals, get the pictures from the
Turtle site and see what non competitors are missing.
