Abersoch

Wakeboarding has become increasingly popular in Abersoch over the last few years and the bay provides sheltered conditions in most wind directions. Importers of various world brands are based in Abersoch and a large wakeboard event is held here each year - Wakestock.

Where To Ride:
There are a number of different places to wakeboard around Abersoch. The weather and wind direction will determine the best place to go on the day. Abersoch bay is relatively sheltered from the prevailing southwesterly winds. However unlike inland lakes, Abersoch can be more susceptible to adverse weather conditions that are experienced on the coast. Although normally there is some flat water to be found, it is just a case of hunting it out.

Increasing amounts of watercraft has resulted in stricter launching and designated use areas. It is in the best interests of everybody if these rules are understood and adhered to. A power boat drivers licence/course is advised to be taken prior to venturing out onto the water, for the safety of all users.

Local Events:
Abersoch and Pwllheli has hosted the Wakestock event every year since 2000 with international riders competing in a relaxed environment in the bay and at Pwllheli Marina, where huge "sliders" are erected for the riders to utilise.
