Abersoch

Abersoch offers some of the most varied and exciting windsurfing in Britain with a variety of conditions all within a few miles of each other. On the calmer days you can teach your friends and family or practise those freestyle tricks in the shallow waters of Abersoch Main Beach.

When the wind increases you’ll find the bay an ideal arena for "Bump and Jump" style sailing with plenty of other sailors to race against. The Main Beach is best sailed when the wind is from the NE round to the SW with NW being dead offshore and avoided for safety reasons. There is usually ample space for rigging-up on the foreshore, although Abersoch is a venue for some International and World Sailing Championships and the beach can become pretty crowded during these times.

When the wind goes into the west you’ll find that most sailors will prefer to sail at the "Quarries", a 5-minute car journey from Abersoch, located at the eastern end of the Warren beach. With very similar conditions to Abersoch Main Beach although slightly less busy and slightly more exposed to the incoming chop.

For the wave sailors amongst you Hell’s Mouth or Porth Neigwl can offer some serious sailing. Hell’s Mouth faces SW and picks up any disturbance in the Irish Sea and any decent ground swell. It is best sailed on a SE or NW, port or starboard tack respectively, but being more exposed and isolated than the other beaches it should be treated with full respect. Access to the beach is via a 300m walk from the middle car park. It’s worth taking a friend to help carry your kit and for safety reasons. Since Abersoch is on a peninsula with many different facing beaches you should always be able to find the conditions which suit your ability best. If you have any queries or need advice don’t hesitate to get in touch.
